This spring we had the pleasure of bringing a shortened version of our StageCraft program to Falling Creek Middle School. The team worked with youth after school for 9 weeks teaching them basics of lighting, painting, and scenery with the culminating goal of the group running tech for their newly established drama club's spring play, "Down the Wrong Beanstalk." They explored creative problem solving with live soundscapes (foley artistry) and broken beanstalks, dove into color theory with beads and light gels, and created their own periaktoi to invoke elements of scenery. The faculty had so much fun getting to know these young people and share what they're most passionate about.
Image Descriptions:
1) 3 youth leaning over a large wooden platform with blue paint brushes in hand. The platform is partially painted with a light blue scumble.
2) A group of youth circled around Laine, SPARC's faculty member. Laine has her hand raised up pointing at the door frame behind her. They are learning about soundscapes.
3) A photo taken of the "Down the Wrong Beanstalk" show poster. It was created by one of the youth and includes a curling green beanstalk tendril with bold green text for the title. The word "wrong" is written in red.
4) 2 young people sitting behind a light board. One is holding up a script to follow along with the show. In front of them is the computer monitor that displays the light board's settings.
